Ms Zahra Hussain, Engr.Mansoor-Ul-Hassan Sddiquee and Dr. Noman Ahmed reviewed the two books and unanimously selected Participatory Development : The Story of the Orangi Pilot Project- Research and Training Institute, and the Urban Resource Centre, Karachi Pakistan; by Arif Hassan for the 2010 Award.

The Council of Social Sciences, Pakistan with financial support of National Rural Support Programme conferred Dr. Akhter Khan Memorial Award of Rs. 50,000 for the years 2010 in a ceremony held at Main Auditorium, National Language Promotion Department,
