Announcement for the Award
Five books were nominated / recommended for the Akhter Hameed Khan Memorial Award for the best book on Social Sciences for the year 2011. Two books were selected for final selection:
Energy Crises in Pakistan: Origin, Challenges and Sustainable Solutions by Muhammad Asif and
War insurgencies and Terrorist Attacks: A Psychological perspective from the Muslim World by Dr. Unaiza Niaz.
Of the Four books nominated / recommended for the year 2012, two books were short listed:
From Micro-finance to the Building of Local Institutions; The Origins and Evolution of the Micro-credit programmes by Arif Hassan and Mansoor Raza and
The Class Structure of Pakistan by Taimur Rahman.
Drs. A.H. Nayyar and Pervez Zamurrad Janjua reveiwed the books for final selection for the years 2011 and 2012 respectively,
War, Insurgencies and Terrorist Attacks: by Unaiza Niaz was selected for the 2011 Award and
The Class Structure of Pakistan by Taimur Rahman for 2012 Award.
The Council of Social Sciences, Pakistan with financial support of National Rural Support Programme conferred Dr. Akhter Hameed Khan Memorial Award of Rs. 50,000 each, for the years 2011 and 2012 on two books in a ceremony held at NBS, Seminar Hall, National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad on October 10, 2013.
Since it was not possible to present the Award in the year 2011, the presentation ceremony included Awards for the both years 2011 and 2012.
