Anyone been to Sardinia?

I'm super keen on checking out Sardinia, because it's one of the BLUE ZONES (where people live to be over 100) but I wonder if it's worth the extra effort

Honestly, I can say that Sardinia is an amazing place and definitely not one to be missed. I have a friend who has lived there for 10 years and I have visited a few times and had the 'local's guide' experience (he also has a couple of Airbnb's in a tiny village called Cuglieri).

For sure there are some amazing beaches there, but you also get to experience a different kind of Italian culture – some of the smaller towns and villages feel like they have been frozen in time. I'd recommend checking out Oristano, Olbia, and Alghero as some of the more interesting cities. It also has some incredible nature – Gola di Gorrupo is a breathtaking beautiful gorge/canyon that really reminds me of northern California.

The people are pretty warm and friendly on the whole. When we stayed with my friend in Cuglieri, there was a special event where everyone in the village had an 'open door' for the evening, you could go inside and meet them, drink homemade wine and eat delicious local snacks (seadas – a cheese and honey pastry).

A few photos from the last time I went, which was actually during winter a few years back, but the weather was still not too bad.
