Hey all!

I am sure some of you have noticed that Google has been going through some changes lately. One of the biggest ones is it's new 'AI overviews'.

For those unfamiliar, this is the little snippet that sometimes appears above all search results that attempts to answer your question.

The problem is, it isn't always right, and I learned this the hard way!

Here's what went down...

I was planning to send my wife to Amsterdam with points to see T Swift and then have her fly back with points through Paris. We found some great flights both ways through American Airlines.

I already had enough points with American Airlines to send her there. For the flight back, I planned to use American Express points.

I googled "can you transfer American Express points to American Airlines".... and Google's AI overview said yes, so I went ahead and planned the whole trip, saving the flight back as the last thing I would book.

Turns out, Google's new AI overview was wrong! I could NOT transfer points to American Airlines!

There was no backing out now, though; I had booked the rest of the trip! THANKFULLY, we found something that worked through Delta. If that had not worked I don't know what we would have done because we did not have money set aside for a $1,000+ ticket home.

Just a PSA... be careful trusting Google AI overviews!

Here is the (wrong) answer it gave me at the time:

Yeah this isn't the first time I have heard about this happening. Many times I have been researching and even sometimes AI will state a hotel has a pool and beach access when it's nowhere even near a beach and doesn't have a pool
😒
